PRESTIGIO is a network that involves many Italian centers of Infectious Diseases located throughout
the national territory. It comes from the close collaboration of infectious disease specialists, virologists and pharmacologists with the common goal
of achieving optimal and homogeneous management of people living with HIV (PLWH) with multi-resistant HIV-1 infection.
To date, there is a minority of patients - defined as multi-resistant - who are unable to permanently suppress viral replication due to the progressive
accumulation of antiretroviral drug resistance and the subsequent depletion of therapeutic options.
The main purpose of Prestigio is to create an Italian registry that collects clinical information, blood samples and laboratory data relating to
the multi-resistant patients enrolled in registry.
Prestigio was approved for the first time on December 14, 2017 by the ethics committee of the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital,
the project coordination center. The procedures for presenting the participating centers to the ethics committees are currently underway.
